The work has an unhurried, meditative presence in both the winding and pendulum motions. Its surfaces feature a combination of freehand and machine-applied perlage patterning, adding visual depth and a subtle sense of movement even when viewed at rest.

The escapement used in Isochronal is a sculptural variation on the Grasshopper escapement, invented by British clockmaker John Harrison around 1722 and later used in several of his celebrated marine timekeepers. Already sculptural in character, the Grasshopper escapement has a distinctive geometry that lends itself naturally to reinterpretation.

A battery-driven winding system automatically rewinds the suspended weights every few minutes, while timekeeping is regulated traditionally though the pendulum and escapement. Commissioned for a commercial building lobby in Washington, DC, this fully mechanical timepiece features automatic winding for reliable, low-maintenance operation in a public architectural setting.
