Once, while in London, I spent a great deal of time in the Energy Hall of the Science Museum, admiring its collection of 19th-century engineering.

The works of that period possess an efficient, understated beauty that has always resonated with me — perhaps reflecting something of my own North of England industrial ancestry.

Standing Gravity draws on that sensibility. Its structural plates, cam-link pendulum suspension, and angular gravity arms all recall the character of 19th-century engineering, reinterpreted here in a sculptural horological form.

Housed beneath a glass dome and illuminated from below, the time would be displayed on rings indicating the hours, minutes, and seconds.

The finish would be satin black steel, complemented by gold-lacquered or gold-plated components.
